Join us on Thursday, December 15 at 6pm for a candlelit Evensong service with the great 'O' Antiphons of Advent. This is the final Evensong before Christmas. Our choir will lead us in the chanting of the antiphons and help draw us nearer to the birth of Christ through this contemplative service.
The Church has been singing the "O" Antiphons since at least the eighth century. Traditionally the antiphons accompany the Magnificat canticle of Evening Prayer from December 17-23. The O Antiphons contain magnificent theology that uses ancient biblical imagery drawn from the messianic hopes of the Old Testament to proclaim the coming Christ as the fulfillment not only of Old Testament hopes, but present ones as well. Their repeated use of the imperative "Come!" embodies the longing of all for the Divine Messiah.
